TUCSON, Ariz. - On a day when scoring proved difficult, the University of Arizona men's golf team scored just well enough Wednesday to move up two places at the 2003 NCAA Men's Golf Championships in Stillwater, Okla.

Arizona posted a 20-over-par 308 total in the second round and currently stands in 12th place. In an event in which no team is within 20 strokes of par, the Wildcats' back-to-back over par team totals in the first two rounds is something of a rarity. It is the first time that has occurred since the opening rounds of the 1999 Championships, a span of 14 rounds. UCLA leads the 30-team field with a 22-over 598 total, one stroke ahead of tournament-host Oklahoma State.

Individually, senior Ricky Barnes is tied for 15th place following a two-over 74 on Wednesday. His five-over total of 149 is eight strokes behind Auburn's Lee Williams. For Barnes, who is seeking his fourth consecutive top-20 finish at the NCAA Championships, his round was highlighted by an eagle on No. 18, a 510-yard par five. In addition to the eagle, his second round included two birdies, two double bogeys and 11 pars.

Following a rough start in which he carded bogeys on three of his first five holes, Nallen finished with a six-over 78 and is tied for 38th place at 153 (+9). The second-round 78 was Nallen's worst in 10 career rounds at the NCAA Championships. Only one player in the field of 156 is under par after 36 holes.

Senior Brian Woolf, who is making his first NCAA Championship appearance, carded a three-over 75 and stands tied for 63rd at 156 (+12). His solid play Wednesday moved him up 43 places on the leaderboard. Also competing for the Wildcats was senior Andrew Medley, who is tied for 77th place at 157 (+13), and senior Reid Hatley, who tallied an 88 (+16) after withdrawing from Tuesday's round due to illness.

The 72-hole 2003 NCAA Men's Golf Championships run through Friday at Karsten Creek Golf Club, a par-72, 7,095-yard layout.
