Box Score

TUCSON (AP)-- No. 22 Arizona needed Dee-Dee Wheeler's three-point shooting as she scored 27 points in an 80-61 victory over UCLA at home on Saturday afternoon. The Cats' win ended a seven-game win streak for the Bruins and resulted in UCLA's first Pac-10 loss of the season.

Wheeler started out hot, and then responded in the second half when the Bruins trimmed a 19-point first-half lead to just five with a pair of threes. She finished with career-high-tying six treys for the game, on eight attempts.

The Bruins (11-5, 6-1) went on a 20-6 scoring spree to open the second half and trailed 48-43 with just under 13 minutes remaining. Arizona's Krista Warren hit a short jumper before Wheeler connected from three to send the Cats ahead, 53-43.

UCLA cut the deficit to 53-47 after a jumper from Gennifer Arranaga at 11:35, then Wheeler connected on her sixth three-pointer to halt the Bruins' momentum. Wheeler also had a driving lay-in at 10:35 to give Arizona (12-4, 6-2) a 58-47 cushion.

UCLA's Nikki Blue, who led the Bruins with 19 points, narrowed the score to 65-57 with 3:43 left, but Arizona's defensive stiffened down the stretch.

The Wildcats got 11 points and 15 rebounds from freshman Shawntinice Polk, who logged her 12th double-double in 16 career games. Junior guard Aimee Grzyb and senior forward Krista Warren added 16 and 12 points, respectively.

Arizona built a 42-23 halftime lead by holding the Bruins to 27 percent shooting from the field, including 1-for-8 marksmanship from three-point range. Wheeler had 16 of her points at the break, making 6-of-10 shots, including four treys.

The Wildcats scored 10 straight points to go ahead, 13-2, early in the game. Following back-to-back layups by Aimee Grzyb and Wheeler, the Wildcats built a 26-10 lead with 8:16 remaining in the half. Grzyb nailed a three-pointer with 15 seconds remaining in the first to give the Wildcats a 42-23 lead at the break.
