TUCSON - Top-ranked Arizona (11-1) overcame a sloppy four-error defensive effort with 15 hits, and Alicia Hollowell earned her first save with a short relief effort to help the Cats earn a 6-3 victory over Florida International in UA's Pepsi Softball Classic Saturday evening.

Florida International (4-9) scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Stephanie Walker led off with a double to left-center, moved to third on Nicole Duboviks's sacrifice bunt and scored with two outs when UA shortstop Lovie Jung mishandled a grounder by Marleah Stapf.

Jackie Coburn lined her third home run of the season over the left field fence after a single by Wendy Allen in the top of the second to give Arizona a 2-1 lead. The Cats pushed it to 3-1 in the third when Jung doubled to center and Mackenzie Vandergeest singled to left-center for the RBI.

The Golden Panthers cut it to 3-2 with an unearned run in the third. Dobovik singled, stole second and then scored when Stapf singled to left and Autumn Champion's throw back to the infield sailed wide on the cut-off play.

Vandergeest doubled to lead off the fifth and moved to third on a single by Wendy Allen, who reached second on a throw to the plate. UA first baseman Erin Palomarez collected her first career hit, a bloop single to left, to drive in both runners and extend the score to 5-2.

FIU cut it to 5-3 in the sixth on Walker's RBI single, but UA reliever Hollowell came in with two runners on and struck out Dubovik to end the threat. She set down the side in the seventh.

Leadoff hitter Champion, a lefty slapper, had four singles to pace UA's attack.
