TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona volleyball coach David Rubio today announced the 27-match schedule for the 2005 season. Included on the slate are 14 matches against teams that participated in last year’s NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats will also face seven teams (Stanford, Washington, USC, UCLA, Georgia Tech, California and UC Santa Barbara) that were ranked in the Top 25 in the final USA Today/CSTV Coaches Poll.

Arizona kicks off the season with the 22nd annual Wildcat Classic Sept. 1-3. Included in this year’s field are No. 17 Georgia Tech, NCAA Tournament participant Winthrop and the Big Ten Conference’s Northwestern.

The following weekend, Sept. 8-10, the Wildcats head to Northern California for the Santa Clara Tournament, where they will face No. 21 UC Santa Barbara, Fresno State and the host Broncos.

On Sept. 16 and 17, Arizona travels to the east coast to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule at the Rhode Island Tournament. There the Wildcats will face Connecticut, North Carolina and Rhode Island.

The always tough Pacific-10 slate begins Sept. 23 and 24 at home against Oregon State and Oregon and closes up on the road against the same two schools on Nov. 25 and 26. Six teams from the conference were ranked in the final Top 25 last season, including three in the Top 5.

Last year, six Pac-10 teams competed in the NCAA Tournament and all six advanced to the second round. Four teams advanced to the Elite Eight, while three of the four teams in the Final Four hailed from the Pac-10. Stanford claimed its sixth national championship with a sweep of Minnesota.
