KANEOHE, Hawai'i (March 18) - The third-ranked Arizona women's golf team moved into second place Tuesday after two rounds of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Rainbow Wahine Golf Invitational at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course. The Wildcats shot a 296 for the first round and a 307 for the second round, bringing their total to 603 (+27) over 36 holes. Freshman Cassandra Kirkland led the Wildcats as she carded a 36-hole score of two-under-par 142 to claim first place entering Wednesday's final round.

Southern California, on the strength of four individuals in the top 10, leads the 54-hole tournament with 18 holes remaining. The Trojans stand at 595 (+19) to lead second-place Arizona by eight strokes entering Wednesday's final round. Rollins College (606, +30), Kansas State (621, +45) and Kentucky (626, +50) round out the top five squads. The Trojans were the only team in the field to record two sub-300 rounds.

Individually, Kirkland posted the best individual round as she carded a 70 in the first round of the two-day tournament, which is being contested over a par-72 layout. Her 36-hole score of two-under-par 142 (70, 72) places her one shot ahead of Southern California's Mikaela Parmlid, who stands in second place (143).

Senior Julia Kraschinski, who is competing as an individual, finished the first two rounds in third place as she shot 2-over-par 146 (74, 72). Senior Laura Myerscough entered the final round tied for fifth place after shooting 4-over-par 148 (75, 73). Senior Anne Lee posted a two-round total of 12-over-par 156 and is tied for 21st place. Sophomore Mar Garcia, who is at 13-over-par 157 with one round remaining, is in a five-way tie for 24th place. Sophomore Miriam Kraschinski sits at 25-over-par 169 for the tournament and is tied for 65th place.

The tournament concludes Wednesday, March 19 with 18 holes of action. The final round is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. HST.
