Head coach Niya Butts and the Arizona women’s basketball team (12-13, 4-10) prepare for a week where they will host Arizona State (11-15, 3-11) on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. and travel to Tempe, Ariz. for a rematch on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m.
The Wildcats fell to No. 21 Colorado on Friday, but are coming off 61-52 win over Utah on Sunday evening.
Senior guard Davellyn Whyte (Phoenix, Ariz.) is averaging 16.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game to lead Arizona. Junior Kama Griffitts (Coeur d’Alene, Idaho) also averages in double digits with 11.8 ppg, while junior Alli Gloyd (Phoenix, Ariz.) leads the team in rebounding at 5.8 rpg.
ASU is led by senior Janae Fulcher, who averages 11.2 ppg and 4.4 rpg. Junior Joy Burke leads the Sun Devils in rebounding with 6.0 rpg.
As a team, Arizona State ranks in the top-five in the Pac-12 in four categories, including fourth in free-throw percentage (.687) and offensive rebounding percentage (.381) and fifth in assists (13.0) and scoring defense (59.4).
ASU holds a 52-31 advantage in the all-time series with the Wildcats, dating back to 1973. The Sun Devils have won three-consecutive games, have a 20-18 record at McKale Center and a 29-12 record in Tempe. Arizona State has won the last 13 matchups in Tempe, a winning streak that has been in tact since 1999.
Both games will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks, with Ros Gold-Onwude and Jim Watson calling the action on Friday.
Both games will also be streamed live at no cost at http://pac-12.com/ScheduleResults.aspx#sportId=7 and broadcast live on KTUC AM 1400. The broadcast will start 15 minutes prior to tip-off for the pregame show, with Derrick Palmer (play-by-play) and Lisa Salgado (color) calling the action.
