TUCSON, Ariz. - Arizona sophomores Isabelle Boineau and Margarita Ramos finished two shots apart to earn top 25 places at the Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship, contested last week at the Royal Aberdeen Golf Club.
Boineau finished with a 72-hole total of 317 to capture 22nd position at +29. Her teammate, Ramos, shared 24th position with Charlie Douglass and Roseann Niven of Great Britain with a four-round total of 319 (+31).
The event, which was held August 19-21, was staged over a par-72, 6,231-yard links style course. Boineau saved her best round of the tournament for last as she carded a 2-over 74 on Friday to wrap up tournament play. Ramos rebounded from a rough opening 18 holes to play three steady rounds of 78, 77 and 77.
The winning score was posted by Danielle McVeigh of Ireland, who carded a 16-over total of 304 to capture a one-stroke win over Hannah Turland of Britain.
The Arizona women's golf team tees off the 2009-10 campaign at the Mason Rudolph Championships, a tournament hosted by Vanderbilt University Sept. 25-27 in Franklin, Tenn.
