TULSA, Okla. ?C The University of Arizona menˇ?s tennis team continued its terrific play on Sunday at the Polo Ralph Lauren All American Championships with Bruno Alcala and Jay Goldman both advancing to the qualifying round of the grand slam tournament.

Alcala faced Christian Bierich of Iowa and won; 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-5.? Alcala then would go onto to play Ball Stateˇ?s Jose Perdemo and win in straight sets; 6-3, 7-6(3).

Goldman played Chris Chirico in the third round and beat him; 7-6(2), 6-2.? In the fourth round of action, Goldman beat Anders Dalskov to advance to qualifying play; 7-5, 6-1

Head Coach Tad Berkowitz on Alcala and Goldman advancing to qualifying play, ˇ?Itˇ?s a great accomplishment for both Bruno and Jay to be able to come in here and win three consecutive matches, Iˇ?m very pleased with their performance.ˇ±

Peter Zimmer, looking for his third win in a row, battled Hubert Chodiewicz, but eventually lost; 7-6(4), 6-0.

For tomorrowˇ?s tournament action, senior Claudio Christen will get his first match under way against Mariusz Adamski of Wake Forest.

Christen and Goldman will also team up to compete in doubles action. They will take on Jakob Klaeson and Kalle Norberg of Mississippi.

Coach Berkowitz added that Zimmer and Alcala will compete in the doubles play as a late addition.
