SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Junior Alejandra Llaneza finished in a tie for 13th place at 2-over par to lead Arizona to a 5th place finish at the Bruin Wave Invitational, Wednesday afternoon at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club.
The Wildcats finished nine shots off the lead at 11-over par, ending the three-round event with a team score of 875. USC won the tournament at 2-over 866 while Arizona State was runner-up two shots back. Tournament co-hosts UCLA (+8) and Pepperdine (+9) rounded out the top five.
Llaneza carded a second-straight round of 3-over 75 to finish her 54 holes at 218. Sophomore Isabelle Boineau was one of four players to shoot 5-over for the event, grabbing a share of 21st place. Freshman Sherlyn Popelka had the low round of the day for the team at 1-under 71, finishing at 6-over with teammate Nikki Koller in 25th position. Margarita Ramos rounded out the squad with a three-day total of 225.
Danielle Kang of Pepperdine claimed individual medalist honors with a three-shot win at 8-under par 208. Jodi Ewart of New Mexico was the tournament runner-up at 5-under par while Stephanie Kono of UCLA ended at 4-under par.
After a busy 10-day period, Arizona has three weeks before heading to Austin, Texas to take part in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational on March 26-28 in an event hosted by the University of Texas.
