            Prouty, Park and Esler all tally one-over 73s in first round

               

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s golf team shot a six-over 294 total Wednesday at the John Burns Intercollegiate at Leilehua Golf Club in Wahaiwa, Hawaii.

 

No Arizona individual shot par or better as the Wildcats six-over 294 tally placed the team in 16th place after the first round.  It was Arizona’s third-highest opening round of the season.

 

UNLV carded an 11-over 277 total to lead the 22-team field by two strokes.  Brigham Young (279), Auburn, Colorado State and Long Beach State (284) rounded out the top-five places.

 

The Wildcats were led by a trio of players, as Brian Prouty, Nicholas Park and Josh Esler each shot a one-over 73 to open the event.  The threesome was among 16 players tied for 49th place in the 123-man field.  Nathan Tyler carded a three-over 75 and is tied for 79th place.  Junior Creighton Honeck is tied for 88th place at four-over 76.

 

UA senior Ben Marsh is competing in the field as an individual.  He is tied for 79th place with a three-over 75.

 

The 54-hole John Burns Intercollegiate continues through Friday at Leilehua Golf Club, a par 72, 6,918-yard layout.
