Arizona’s Grado set to compete at USA Diving selection camp

COLUMBUS, Ohio – University of Arizona diver Ben Grado will participate in a selection camp held by USA Diving to choose representatives for three international events in 2009. The competition will be hosted by Ohio State University and begin Sunday, Feb. 8 and run through Wednesday, Feb. 11.

The Canada Cup, May 1-3 at a site to be announced, the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix, scheduled for May 7-9 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and The World Championships held in Rome over July 18-25 comprise the trio of prestigious diving events.

Grado and a field of 39 other American male divers will compete for a limited number of positions on the U.S. team. Teams will be announced Thursday, February 12. Only the individual events will be chosen at this camp. Synchronized teams will be chosen at a later date. Some Olympians competing in the selection camp include David Boudia, Chris Colwill, Troy Dumais and Thomas Finchum.

So far this season Grado has paced the Wildcat divers, recently sweeping the one-and-three-meter events against both California and Stanford in dual meets.

The Arizona swimming and diving team’s will next compete in its final dual meet of the season against Arizona State on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. before the Pac-10 Conference championships.
