Arizona?s Top-Ranked Doubles Lose, Hollands Wins Two Consolation Matches

Los Angeles, Calif. ?- Arizona seniors Dianne Hollands and Maja Mlakar lost their

quarterfinal match in the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships on Friday.  Also on the second day of play, Hollands advanced to the consolation semifinals with two victories.


Hollands and Mlakar, ranked No. 1 in the nation, lost to Notre Dame’s Catrina and Christian Thompson 8-6.  The twins from Notre Dame handed Arizona’s top-ranked duo their second quarterfinal loss in an as many tournaments. 


Hollands, ranked No. 7 in the nation, began the day by defeating Tulsa’s Daniela Muscolino, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, in the consolation bracket’s round of 16.  In the quarterfinals, Hollands beat Maryland’s Ramona But, 7-5, 6-2.  Hollands fell from the open bracket on the first day of the tournament when she lost to Sacramento State’s Margarita Karnaukhova, 6-2, 6-0.  Hollands will face Alabama’s Robin Stephenson in a semifinal Saturday.
