Las Cruces--The women's tennis team kicks off its fall schedule this Friday in Las Cruces, New Mexico at the New Mexico Invitational. They will be going up against players from Oklahoma State, UTEP, Tarleton State, Western New Mexico, and New Mexico State.
"This week will be a good test for the girls. It is a tournament where they are expected to do well, so I like that they will go in there with a little pressure on them," said head coach Vicky Maes. "It's so difficult to simulate key situations in practice, and these individual tournaments offer that experience. Practices have been going really well, now I like to see that result in some well-executed matches."
The invitational features two singles and doubles draws that will have consolation brackets so all the competing players can get play as many matches as possible.
In singles, sophomore Jane Huh will be going up against New Mexico State's Stephanie Eusebe, junior Ariane Masschelein will be going up against Oklahoma State's Maryna Trachenko, and freshman Deborah Castany will be going up against Tarleton State's Evgeniya Jaskova after a first round bye.
In doubles, Huh and Masschelein will be playing against Tarleton's Chrissie Cooper and Natalia Yanes after a first round bye.
