COLUMBUS, Ohio - The NCAA has postponed the start for the men's swimming and diving national championships 24 hours per the ruling by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, announced this evening by Maisha Palmer, assistant director of championships with the NCAA.
Eighteen student-athletes and one coach have been treated at the Ohio State University Medical Center and the Ohio State Sports Medicine Center for a possible gastrointestinal illness. Nine of the eighteen student-athletes involved compete for the University of Arizona. Other teams believed to have contracted the virus include the University of Texas and Stanford University.
The Wildcats ended the season as the nation's top-ranked team after running through its dual meet schedule unscathed. All events will remain in the same order with prelims beginning at noon and finals at 7 p.m. ET.
Ohio State Athletics Department team physician Dr. Chris Kaeding along with the NCAA crisis management team and CDC will continue to monitor the issue and take additional action, if necessary. Those who have been infected will not be able to access the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion until 48 hours after their first symptoms.
