WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The University of Arizona baseball team has been tabbed to finish fifth in the Pacific-10 Conference this season, according to the preseason coaches poll released by the league office on Tuesday.

The Wildcats, who finished tied for fifth a season ago with a 13-14 in the conference, are picked to finish behind defending champion Arizona State, Oregon State, UCLA and Stanford. Behind Arizona are Washington State, California, USC, Washington and Oregon.

The poll was determined on a vote of the league's head coaches. Nine points are awarded for a first place vote, eight points for a second place vote, and so on. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.

Arizona closed the 2009 season winning 10 of its final 12 league games after a disappointing start. A season ago, 15 of the Wildcats' 27 conference games were on the road, including 12 of the first 18.

The schedule will turn in the Wildcats' favor this season as they host the Pac-10 series against rival Arizona State in Tucson May 15-17, giving them 15 home games against 12 road contests.

Arizona's conference opener is slated for March 26-28 when it welcomes Oregon to Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium.

The non-conference schedule opens on Feb. 19 with a three-game series against Utah Valley. The Wildcats' first win in 2010 will mark the 2,500th win all-time for Arizona, which would become just the seventh school in the NCAA to accomplish the feat.
