Tucson, Ariz. – The Arizona volleyball team stretched its record to 3-0 and won the Wildcat Classic over the weekend with a tournament ending victory, 3-0, over Gardner-Webb (0-3).
Arizona came out hot against the visiting Bulldogs and recorded 14 kills with no attack errors in the first set and won 25-12. They then cruised in the final two games and got by Gardner-Webb 25-21 and 25-15.
Paige Weber led the team with 32 assists and brought home the classic MVP.
Arizona placed three players on the Wildcat Classic All-Tournament team. Weber, outside hitter Tiffany Owens and libero Alanna Resch were all named to the squad. Resch was named Most Outstanding Libero in the classic.
Weber State (2-1) placed Brittney Bisaillon on the team, San Jose State (1-2) was represented by Niki Clement and Kelly Crow and Gardner-Webb’s Laura Wilcox made the team.
Arizona continues play next weekend with the Arizona Invitational. Santa Clara, Texas St. and Texas Tech come to Tucson for a tournament format similar to the Wildcat Classic.
Arizona plays Texas State Friday, Sept. 5 at 10:00 a.m. in McKale Center to open the invitational.
