Wildcats Overpower Two in Fiesta Bowl Softball

PHOENIX--University of Arizona pitchers Becky Lemke and Jennie Finch each threw one- hitters and the Wildcats backed up those performances with 23 hits in a pair of 9-0 and 10-0 shutouts over Texas A&M and Tennessee-Chattanooga Saturday in Arizona State's Fiesta Bowl Softball Tournament.

In morning action at ASU's Farrington Stadium in Tempe, Lemke (4-1) missed a perfect game when Aggies catcher Selena Collins doubled off the right field fence. In seven innings she struck out four and walked none. A&M hitters (2-2) grounded out 15 times.

UA scored the only run it needed in the first when Nicole Giordano led off with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Lindsey Collins. The Cats sent 10 hitters to the plate in a five-run seventh.
