Tucson, Ariz.- The nationally ranked No. 18 Gymnastics team competed in their second home meet in a row at McKale center this weekend to compete against unranked Washington who is also in the Pac-10. It was the teamˇ?s fourth home meet, and sixth Pac-10 meet of the season.??The Cats swept the meet scoring a season high of 196.300 and the Huskies a 194.525.??The team is now 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the Pac-10.

ˇ?This was a perfect example of a team effort. We had some injuries, and many people stepped up,ˇ± said head coach Bill Ryden.

?

The night began on the vault with the team performing strong, scoring a 49.175 making it their season high. Juniors Alexis Greene and Bree Workman, sophomore Miranda Russell, and freshman Colleen Fisher all tied with a score of 9.850 giving them second place.

?

On bars, the Cats continued their momentum with senior Karin Wurm notching a 9.900 giving her first place with sophomore Miranda Russell following at second with a 9.850.? Junior Briana Bergeson tying for third place with 9.800. The total team score was a 48.900.

?

Beam proved a bit more difficult for the Cats, although they managed to pull through with junior Briana Bergeson earning a 9.850,which not only tied her season high but awarded her first place as well.? Sophomore Miranda Russell notched a season high 9.825 giving her second place, and Senior Karin Wurm came in at fourth with a 9.800.

?

On the final event of the night, the Wildcats dominated, with junior Sarah Specht earning a career high of 9.925 awarding her second place, and senior Karin Wurm taking third with a 9.900. The overall team score was a 49.400, making it their season high on the event.

Miranda Russell took the all-around with a 39.400 making it her career high, and first all-around win of the season.

ˇ?I know we are one of the best teams in the nation, even if the rankings donˇ?t say so. We are excited to get onto a neutral floor at the end of the season and compete.ˇ± Said Ryden.

The Wildcats hit the road next week competing against Kentucky on Friday, March 7th?in Lexington, Ky. At 7 p.m.? ? It will be the teamˇ?s 4th non-conference meet of the season and fifth road meet.
