The Arizona volleyball team hosts two of the top programs in the nation this weekend when No. 6 California and No. 2 Stanford come to Tucson.
The Wildcats (13-9, 3-7) play the Golden Bears (19-3, 9-2) Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in McKale Center as part of Bingo Night and Senior Citizen Night. Fans will be encouraged to play Bingo throughout the match and all senior citizens will receive a dollar off their ticket price.
This will be the second meeting between the two school, with Cal prevailing, 3-0, in the first match. Arizona was held to a then season-low 30 kills in the loss.
This time, the Golden Bears come in as the second place team in the Pac-10 and are led by sophomore Carli Lloyd who is tied for the Pac-10 lead in sets per match at 12.09 and junior Hana Cutura who leads the league in points per set at 4.96.
Arizona continues through the second half of the Pac-10 season with a match Saturday at 7:00 pm. in the McKale Center against No. 2 Stanford as part of Family Four Park. Fans can bring the whole family to the game for $40, which includes four tickets to the game, four hot dogs, four bags of peanuts and four sodas.
The last meeting between the two schools went to Stanford 3-0. The Wildcats battled the Cardinals point-for-point in the first set, but were doomed by errors the remainder of the match.
The Cardinal come into McKale with the league leader in hitting percentage (.451) and blocks (1.47 per set) in senior Foluke Akinradewo. Stanford also leads the conference in wins and is on pace for its third straight conference championship.
This weekend will be the next to last home stand for the Wildcats. The team hosts Oregon and Oregon State Friday, Nov. 21 and Sunday Nov. 23 respectively in Arizona’s last home matches of 2008.
