Junior guard Natalie Jones: “This was a great game for us. We had a lot of contribution from the entire team. We were able to get the ball into the post players and take pressure off of Dee-Dee at the point. This is the first game we have played a full 40 minutes.”

“The loss at Georgia put some things into perspective for us. We came back and practiced and got our act together.”

“I have to be more confident and take my shots. I’ve gotten a lot of side talk from Dee-Dee. The confidence she has in me gives me a lot of confidence.”

“I give Kristen (Mann) a lot of credit. She is seriously one of the best players I’ve seen. She threw a lot of things at me, and she earned every point she got. I give a lot of credit to Santa Barbara. We just wanted it more tonight.”

“I was amazed that Dee-Dee kept hitting her threes left and right. I just wanted her to keep going. That is great to see her going out with a bang during her senior year.”

Senior guard Dee-Dee Wheeler: “It’s great to tie a school record, but I am more happy that we got the victory tonight. I felt great that I hit seven three-pointers. I was very excited. I had been in a slump, but I just kept telling myself to continue shooting. My teammates kept giving me the ball, and that helped. I sprained my thumb in the Georgia game, but it didn’t bother me at all tonight.”

“Natalie has been playing great ever since the BYU game. She is shooting well and rebounding very well.”

“This is the most talented team I have been on. We have a great bench with better leadership than last year. Tonight, I think we really came out in the second half. We played a complete game, and we were aggressive and got to the foul line.”

On the team’s trip to Chicago: “I am so excited to go home and play in front of my family and friends. This will be a great homecoming for me. It is a great opportunity for my friends and family to see me play.”

Head Coach Joan Bonvicini: “This was a statement game for us. UC Santa Barbara is the best team we have played at home. We knew we had to be aggressive. They were going to come out on fire after a 10-day layoff. The key for tonight was to play aggressively. I think we could have done a better job rebounding.”

“Dee-Dee (Wheeler) played her best game as a Wildcat. She played like senior. She played like a leader. Now she will take this team back to Chicago. This is a big road swing for us, but this game was huge. I think as the game kept going, Dee-Dee took the game into her own hands from rebounding to scoring.”

“This was a big win. UC Santa Barbara has played an outstanding schedule. This will help them as they head into conference play. They will be back in the NCAA Tournament.”

“Natalie (Jones) was undersized in her match-up tonight, but she never backed down. Kristen Mann is a tough player.  UC Santa Barbara always plays tough defensively. We wanted to let them know from the beginning that this was going to be a dog fight. We had to keep the pressure on because we wanted to play solid.”
