Arizona women's swimming kicked off the 2011-12 season with a win as it defeated Kansas on Saturday morning at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. Eight different Wildcats and two relay teams won 13 of the 14 events.
Arizona sophomore Margo Geer (Milford Center, Ohio) recorded four wins in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free and 200 free relay, joined by sophomores Kait Flederbach (Carmel, Ind.), Sarah Denninghoff (Tucson, Ariz.) and Aubrey Peacock (Jacksonville, Fla.).
Senior Alyssa Anderson (Granite Bay, Calif.) won three individual events for the Wildcats, including the 1000 free, 200 fly and 500 free.
Four other individuals recorded victories for Arizona. Denninghoff won the 100 and 200 back, junior Ellyn Baumgardner (Fairfax, Va.) won the 100 breast, senior Grace Kittle (Dallas, Texas) won the 200 breast and Peacock won the 100 fly.
In the 200 medley relay, Denninghoff, Baumgardner, Peacock and sophomore Flederbach teamed up for a win.
In the diving competition, Arizona won both boards and senior Ainsley Oliver (Saskatchewan, Saskatoon) qualified for the Zone Championships.
"We did a good job of competing today," Arizona head coach Eric Hansen said. "The whole group performed well. Not everybody got what they wanted, but I am seeing things we have been working on in practice show up, for the most part."
The men's and women's swimming teams will host UNLV on Friday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m.at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
