Tucson, Ariz.?- Arizona Football Training Camp Notes and Quotes...

...Taking a day off from two-a-days, the University of Arizona Football team practiced Tuesday evening at Rincon Vista complex. “If we come out here and work everyday we can only get better...[and] be consistent in our effort,” Head Coach Mike Stoops commented about practice Tuesday...

...Head Coach Stoops stressed fixing the mechanics of the offense, which proved to be troubling in the scrimmage Saturday night, “We’re still getting there, and we’re getting a little bit better as we move through practice. Still offensively little things ?- we’re preventing ourselves from moving the ball consistently ?- just got to clean up the mechanics. We did a lot...short yardage, goal line and red zone today ?- we’re moving along pretty much as planned. We’re going to scrimmage tomorrow night and see if we are going to get some of our mechanics cleaned up as we get closer to playing real games,” He told reporters...

...On both sides of the ball, Head Coach Stoops is emphasizing consistency in order to improve, “Just consistently are the biggest things offensively and defensively. We’re not good enough to make mental mistakes and beat ourselves. We have to execute and move ahead of the chains not get behind the chains offensively and defensively ?- just understand our responsibilities and not give up our space. We’re getting better, more consistent,” Head Coach Stoops said...

...Head Coach Stoops raved about junior running back Mike Bell on Tuesday, “Mike is a fantastic player...he does everything well. Things come easy to Mike. He’s a great runner, he’s a great receiver, and he’s a great protector. He just does everything well. He’s a joy to coach; he’s a very competitive person and that is the thing we love about Mike. We need to give him some space and I think he has a chance to become a special player,” he said ...

...At the end of practice Tuesday the Wildcats went into a live scrimmage to work on their goal line offense and defense. Coming up big on the first drive the defense stopped the offense. On the second drive junior Nic Costa hit senior tight end Clarence McRae for a 3-yard touchdown. The third drive saw junior running back Mike Bell run the ball for a touchdown. Costa fumbled the next snap as junior free safety Darrell Brooks recover the ball. On the next drive Bell was stopped short of a touchdown by senior defensive tackle Carlos Williams and senior linebacker Patrick Howard. Senior running back Chris Harris could not gain much more on the sixth play, after being stopped by redshirt freshman linebacker Dane Krogstad and Brooks. The last play in the goal line scrimmage was a touchdown run by Chris Harris ...

...The goal line scrimmage provided opportunities to work on the short yardage, “It was good. We need to get enough of that situation as we can. It was our first day down at the goal line ?- we saw some good things,” Head Coach Stoops said ...
