TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Less than a week after announcing the acquisition of ATP professional Taylor Dent to their staff, the University of Arizona men’s tennis coaches made another big announcement. Jay Goldman, a 5-star star recruit, has signed his national letter of intent and will be joining the team in the fall.

Goldman, a native of Worcester, Mass., is among the nation’s top junior players, and is the highest rated recruit in the recent history of Arizona men’s tennis. “This is the first big recruit for Tad (Berkowitz, head coach) and I,” said assistant coach Tom Lloyd. “We’re excited to have him, and we’re planning on him being a major contributor next season.”

According to TennisRecruiting.net, Goldman was a perfect 27-0 during his 2006 junior campaign, the only top prospect to accomplish such a feat. He finished that season as No. 19 on the national recruiting list, but was No. 4 among rankings based on TennisRPI. Recently, Goldman defeated former Illinois player and college tennis No.1 Ryler Deheart in the second round of qualifying for the USA F5 Futures tournament.
