PRINCETON, N.J. ?- The University of Arizona women’s soccer team (3-1-1) defeated Penn (1-1-1) by a score of 4-0 to win the Princeton Invitational.

The first goal of the match came when junior Erin Bevacqua crossed the ball to senior Nikki David who then passed the ball to senior Mallory Miller at the top of the box. Miller placed the ball in the corner of the far post to give the Wildcats the early lead. The second goal of the half also resulted from a combination play from David to Miller. The two goals were Miller’s third and fourth on the season, making her the Wildcats’ scoring leader.

In the second half, freshman Gianna DeSavario scored her first collegiate goal in the 69th minute. DeSavario beat the goalie one-on-one to give Arizona the 3-0 lead. Late in the half, freshman Brianna Caceres passed the ball to Kamaya Damwijk out wide, who placed the ball back to sophomore Nicole Scheid who placed the ball in the back of the net for her first goal on the season.

Freshmen Savanah Levake and Erika Olson both entered the game in the second half of the game for their first playing time of the season.

Tobias was pleased with the Wildcats’ efforts.

“I thought we scored four pretty nice goals,” Tobias said. “We did a nice job keeping the ball. As the game wore on we got better at supporting each other earlier.”

Arizona will return home from New Jersey for its own tournament, the Four Points University Plaza Arizona Soccer Classic.

“Our goal was to finish up with a good performance and capture a tournament title,” Tobias explained. “I am very proud of how we performed today and throughout the weekend. This a very good place to build from going into our tournament next weekend against two high-quality teams.”

The Wildcats will take on Utah on Sept. 16 at 7:30 p.m., followed by New Mexico on Sept. 18 at 12:30 p.m. Both matches will take place at Murphey Stadium.
