TUCSON, Ariz.- Arizona freshman Kim Glass made her NCAA championship tournament debut a memorable one. The first-year Wildcat exploded for a three-game school record 28 kills in Arizona's 30-22, 30-26, 30-20 victory over Texas-Arlington in McKale Center on Thursday.

The win, Arizona's fifth consecutive opening round sweep, improved the Wildcats' record to 18-11 overall for the year. UTA, which opened its season with a 3-1 loss to the Wildcats, finished its Southland Conference championship season 26-7. Arizona will advance on to face Texas in the second round of the tournament on Friday at 7 p.m. MST.

As a team the Wildcats dominated all aspects of the match. UA out-hit UTA .390 to .200, out-dug it 54 to 42 and out-blocked it 7.5 to nothing.

Individually, Glass stole the show on Thursday for the victorious Wildcats. She finished her record setting night with the 28 kills on 43 swings with just four errors for a team-leading .558 hitting percentage. She tallied 10 kills in the first game, seven in the second and closed out the win with 11 in the third. The 28 kills accounted for 45-percent of Arizona's total for the evening.

Senior Lisa Rutledge, who moved past former Wildcat All-American Dana Burkholder for first in career matches started on Thursday, chipped in with 11 kills on .296 hitting and also came up with 12 digs. Freshman middle blocker Bre Ladd posted nine kills in her first NCAA tournament match and senior Shannon Torregrosa added seven kills, six assists, six digs and six block assists.

UTA's Olaya Pazo led the way for the Mavericks, finishing the match with 11 kills on a match high .588 hitting.

The Wildcats and Longhorns will meet up for the first time since the 1999 NCAA tournament. Underdog Arizona swept higher-seeded Texas in Austin to advance to the Sweet 16in that match.
