WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona opposite Kristina Baum has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for Oct. 10-16, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Baum, a junior from Whittier, Calif., helped lead the Wildcats to wins over No. 3 Stanford and No. 13 California. In the upset over the Cardinal, she posted career highs with 17 kills and 13 digs, her second double-double of the season. Against the Golden Bears, she posted 11 kills and added eight digs.
Baum averaged 3.50 kills and 2.62 digs last weekend, well above the 2.30 kills and 1.75 digs she had been averaging heading into last weekend’s matches.
Arizona is currently ranked No. 8, its highest ranking since the beginning of the 2002 season. The Wildcats (14-2, 6-1) travel to Los Angeles this weekend, facing No. 21 UCLA on Friday, Oct. 21, and No. 19 USC on Saturday, Oct. 22.
This is Baum’s first weekly honor and Arizona’s 23rd Player of the Week honor all-time.
