TUCSON, Ariz. - No. 24 Arizona Volleyball swept Cal State Bakersfield Saturday afternoon in McKale Center to run its winning streak to four consecutive matches. Set scores were: 25-13, 25-18, 25-16.
Whitney Dosty, Arizona's leader again in kills on Saturday, was named Most Valuable Player for the Wildcat Classic presented by Marriott University Park Tucson. Dosty tallied 12 kills on 23 swings and 10 digs against the Road Runners for her second double-double on the early season. Her .348 hitting percentage was also impressive. Middle blocker Cursty Jackson was also named to the All-Tournament team. Jackson had eight kills, two aces and two block assists Saturday.
This match, unlike Friday night's five-set affair with Louisville, was never in doubt as UA was in control the entire way. In the first set, the Cats hit for a season-high .667 in rout to the easy 25-13. Paige Weber led Arizona with 31 assists through three sets.
A few newcomers put up quality numbers on Saturday as transfer Marketa Hanzlova had eight kills on .467 hitting, five digs and two aces and Emily Helm recorded four digs and two assists as the libero in set three. Freshman Maddie Lozano had six kills on seven attempts and five total blocks.
Arizona hits the road next weekend for the Wolf Pack Invitational hosted by University of Nevada-Reno. The Cats will take on Pacific on Friday to begin the tournament.
