TUCSON - University of Arizona Wildcat women's basketball signee Kama Griffitts, a sophomore playing for North Idaho College, was named the NJCAA Player of the Week for her performances Jan. 3-8.
Griffitts was announced as an addition to the 2011-12 Wildcats' roster on Nov. 15, 2010 when she signed her National Letter of Intent. She is a 6-0 guard/forward from Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. She will transfer to Arizona from North Idaho College. During the 2009-10 season, she averaged 14.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. She also made 72 three-pointers. While playing for NIC, she was a 2009-10 first-team All-Scenic West Athletic Conference selection and an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American.
This week, Griffitts was named the NJCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week after an impressive four-game performance during the week of Jan. 3-8. North Idaho College won all four games by an average of 26 points. Griffitts averaged 22.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting an impressive 54.0 percent from the floor, 57.8 percent from behind the three-point arc and 70.0 percent from the free-throw line.
North Idaho College defeated Central Arizona, who was ranked No. 6 in the nation, on their home court. The Arizona portion of the road trip also included wins over Chandler Gilbert Community College and Scottsdale Community College. The Lady Cardinals finished the road trip with a win over in-state and Scenic West Athletic Conference rivals, College of Southern Idaho, also on their home court. College of Southern Idaho was ranked No. 18 at the time.
