TUCSON--Senior quarterback Adam Austin has been named the starter for Saturday's football game against Stephen F. Austin, head coach Mike Stoops said before practice Thursday.
Austin, who finished the LSU game last week in place of UA sophomore Willie Tuitama, who was removed after showing symptoms of a concussion, has never started in his five-year UA career, which began as a walk-on.
"Willie is going to practice today (Thursday), but Adam Austin is going to be the starting quarterback," Stoops said. Tuitama had been held from practice Monday through Wednesday.
In what amounted to the first extended playing time of his career last week, Austin led the UA on its lone scoring drive at the end of the game and finished with eight completions in 19 attempts for 67 yards. He had appeared previously in two games, one at Utah in 2005 and one against UTEP in 2003.
"I'm really happy to get this opportunity," the senior signal caller said after practice. "I've been looking forward to this since I first got to Arizona."
Stoops did not elaborate about how much or if Tuitama was expected to play, but had indicated earlier in the week that if he returned to practice, he could be able to go against the Lumberjacks.
