HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. ?- The Arizona women’s golf team advanced past Washington in the completion of the second round Monday morning. The Wildcats carded 3 wins to defeat the Huskies. However, UA was unable to slip pass No.1 Duke, as they lost 3-2-0 during the third round at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
In the third round against the Blue Devils, Senior Mar Garcia was victorious in the round by scoring 5 and 4 to defeat Anna Grzebein. Junior Whitney Welch also grabbed a win for the Wildcats, by defeating Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh 3 and 1. Elizabeth Janangelo defeated junior Cassandra Kirkland, 1 up. Jennifer Pandolfi, additionally in the third round, defeated junior Lani Elston 4 and 3. Duke’s Brittany Lang defeated senior Miriam Kraschinski also in a 4 and 3 match.
Earlier this morning against Washington, Garcia was victorious in the second round by scoring 1 up to defeat Kim Shin. Kirkland’s match against Paige Mackenzie was halved. Elston defeated Amy Wang 1up also in the second round. Kraschinski defeated Sung Ea Lee 1 up. Washington’s Amber Prange defeated Welch in a 2 and 1 match.
Arizona advances to face Oklahoma State in the third place match on Tuesday. The Wildcats will tee off in the final round beginning at an 8:00 a.m. (EST) shot gun start. The tournament is being played at Mission Inn Resort, El Campeon.
