TUCSON - The Arizona Wildcats and the USC Trojans will continue the Pac-10 slate of women's basketball games with a 4 p.m. MT contest on Sat., Feb. 26, at McKale Center. Saturday's pre-game events will also include Senior Day ceremonies.
The Arizona Wildcats and the USC Trojans will meet for the 66th time on Thursday in Los Angeles. The Trojans lead the series with UA, 48-18. USC has won five of the last seven meetings between the two teams, including an 81-72 win in LA earlier this season. The Wildcats last defeated the Trojans, 74-61, on Feb. 15, 2009, at the Galen Center.
The Arizona Wildcats are 16-10 overall and 7-8 in the Pac-10. The Wildcats have three players averaging in double figures: sophomore guard Davellyn Whyte (15.3), senior forward Ify Ibekwe (15.6) and senior forward Soana Lucet (10.8). Ibekwe leads Arizona at the glass with 9.7 rebounds per game and junior guard Shanita Arnold dishes out 5.2 assists per game.
Ibekwe leads the Pac-10 in rebounds (242, 9.7) and defensive rebounds (169, 6.8). Freshman forward Erica Barnes leads the league in field goal percentage (69-116-.595). Arnold ranks No. 2 in assists with 5.2 (135 total) and No. 4 in assist/turnover ratio (1.5). As a squad, Arizona ranks in the top three in the Pac-10 in scoring offense, scoring margin, field goal percentage, assists and turnover margin.
The USC Trojans are 16-10 overall and 8-7 in Pac-10 play. Briana Gilbreath paces the Women of Troy with 15.0 points per game while Ashley Corral and Jacki Gemelos chip in with 12.3 and 11.5 points per game, respectively. Gilbreath leads at the glass with 7.5 rebounds per game. In the Pac-10 ranks, USC ranks in the top three in free throw percentage, three-point field goal percentage, assist/turnover ratio and defensive rebounds.
Arizona will host USC on Sat., Feb. 26 (4 p.m. MT), including Senior Day Ceremonies to recognize the Wildcat senior class. The Wildcats will close out the Pac-10 regular season with a road swing to play at Oregon State on March 3 and at Oregon on March 5.
