TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball player Jason Gardner was named a second team All-American Wednesday by Basketball America. It is the third time this season that Gardner has earned All-America accolades.

Gardner, a 5-foot-10, 181-pound junior guard from Indianapolis, Ind., averages 20.4 points 2.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game, while averaging 38.2 minutes per game. In 34 games, Gardner is shot 42.5 percent from the field, 38.4 percent from three-point range, and ranks third in school history with 106 three-point field goals this season. He currently ranks in the top 10 in eight Arizona career statistical categories. Gardner scored more points (692) than any other player in the Pac-10 this season and is the only league player to be ranked in the top 10 in points, assists and steals.

In his 104-game career, Gardner has scored 1,512 points, knocked down 252 three-point field goals, passed out 464 assists and collected 164 steals. Each of those figures ranks in the UA career top 10.

The seventh-ranked Wildcats finished the 2001-02 campaign with an overall record of 24-10 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament West Regional Semifinals. It was Arizona's 18th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, the longest active streak in the nation, and the program's 15th straight 20-win season.
