WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ?-The Arizona women’s basketball team has been picked to finish seventh in the Pacific-10 Conference in a preseason poll of media members who cover Pac-10 women’s basketball. The Wildcats received 59 votes.
Stanford, which finished 32-3 overall and advanced to its second consecutive Elite Eight last season, was picked to finish first, garnering 10 first-place votes in the poll. This is the fifth-straight year that Stanford has been picked by the media as the preseason favorite.
UCLA (109) earned two first-place votes and was selected second, while USC (103) notched one first-place vote and was picked to finish third. Arizona State (101), Oregon (66) and Washington (65) were tabbed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in the poll.
Rounding out the poll were California (43), Washington Stte (25) and Oregon State (17).
Four returning All-Pac-10 players were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team ?- Nikki Blue of UCLA, Brooke Smith and Candice Wiggins of Stanford and Emily Westerberg of Arizona State. UCLA guard Noelle Quinn, an honorable mention all-conference selection who sat out the majority of last year due to injury, was also named to the team.
