TUCSON , Ariz. ?C?Arizona womenˇ?s soccer team lost 1-0 to Virginia Tech giving up a goal to the Hokies in the 82nd?minute on Friday night at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.

The win improves the Hokies to 4-2-1, while the loss drops Arizona to 4-3-0.

The first half of the game was scoreless, but Arizona had many opportunities to score.? Freshman Jasmin Day had a shot on goal, but Hokie goalkeeper Ashley Owens made a diving save.

ˇ?If we get the first goal right before the half and go in up 1-0, instead of tied, I believe we would have won,ˇ± head coach Dan Tobias said.

Virginia Tech freshman midfielder Meghan Flesch broke the 0-0 tie with a goal in the 82nd minute.? Flesch received a pass from junior midfielder Mauri Liberati inside the box and put it past Wildcatˇ?s goalkeeper Danielle Nicolai.

Arizona had other chances to score and twice missed by just inches, with balls bouncing off the crossbar.?

ˇ?We did everything right tonight, but score,ˇ± Tobias said.? ˇ?Give Virginia Tech credit, they made it difficult for us to get a rhythm.? You hate to learn lessons in a loss but we learned some valuable lessons tonight that will help us down the road.ˇ±
