The Arizona women's tennis team will head to San Diego this week for the 2009 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships October 22.
The Cats, competing in the southwest region, will go up against opponents from Long Beach State, Cal State Northridge, San Diego State, Hawaii, San Diego, Pepperdine, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Cal State Fullerton, Loyola Marymount, UC Santa Barbara, along with fellow members from the Pac-10: Arizona State, UCLA, and USC.
In singles play, sophomore Natasha Marks, who last competed in the 2009 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, will be playing at the No. 4 seed, and will start off play in the round of 64 against Cal State Northridge's Nina Jaworowski Thursday at 12:30pm.
At the No.11 seed is sophomore Sarah Landsman, who has a first round bye and will take on the winner of San Diego Lise Marbach and Cal State Northridge's Amira Massi's match 10 am match.
Senior Ariane Masschelein, at the No. 17 seed, will be going up against UC Santa Barbara's Annabel Gledden at 12:30pm.
Freshman Shannon Cassidy will start play against UC Riverside's Taylor Raney at 10 am in the round of 128, and sophomore Debora Castany has a first round bye before taking on UC Irvine's Stephanie Hammel at 11:30am in the round of 64.
Senior Claire Rietsch will start against San Diego State's Olivia Colman at 10am in the round of 128, and freshman Elizabeth Hammond will debut for the Wildcats against the winner of the 10am match between Pepperdine's Tara Panu and UCLA's Carling Seguso.
Sophomore Jane Huh will take on UC Santa Barbara's Natalia Lozano in the round of 64 at noon.
For doubles, Cassidy and Huh will team up against Pepperdine's Anamika Bhargava and Alexandria Walters at 9am, and Marks and Rietsch will take on the winner of the 9am match between Cal State Fullerton and Pepperdine.
Landsman and Masschelein will take on Long Beach State's Anna Jeczmionka and Julie Luzar at 9am, and Cassidy and Hammond will take on USC's Valeria Pulido-Velasco and Maria Sanchez at 9am.
Play at the 2009 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships will continue through October 26.
