Arizona (1-2) vs. Creighton (1-2-1) Sunday, Sept.2 • 5:00 p.m. MST Omaha, Neb. • Morrison Stadium

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Arizona women’s soccer team will travel to Omaha, Neb., to take on the Bluejays of Creighton University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. MST.

Last weekend: Arizona (1-2) traveled to Northern Arizona University and earned its first win of the 2012 season with a 3-0 shutout over the Lumberjacks. Within the first 10 minutes of the game, Wildcat Susana Melendez scored her first goal of the season with a header off a throw- in from freshman Sheridan Cohen. Olympian Ana-Maria Montoya recorded two goals in the game six minutes between each other. Junior Jazmin Ponce led the team with four shot attempts on goal.

The three-goal performance for the Wildcats marked their first game with multiple goals since scoring two on Sept. 30, 2011, in a 2-2 draw against Colorado. UA had not scored three goals in a game since Sept. 12, 2010, in a 3-1 victory against Tennessee.

About the Bluejays: The Creighton women’s soccer team started its season with a three game losing streak but ended it last weekend on the road against the South Dakota Coyotes. In the win against the Coyotes, senior Sarah Kendall earned her second goal of the season and freshmen Alyssa Jara and Alissa Kohmetscher each earned their first goals. Goalkeeper Katie Jo Swanson had five saves and only allowed one goal on the night.

Wildcat Defense: In addition to the stellar performance by the Arizona offense, the defense has not allowed a goal in 177 minutes. The Brigham Young Cougars scored the last goal in the third minute of the match last weekend, which proved to be the game winner for the Cougars. All-star goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman has recorded a total of 15 saves in the last three games.

Montoya an Olympian: In her freshman year as a Wildcat, Montoya had a total of 20 shots on goal and accumulated 2 goals. The following year, as a sophomore, she had nine shots on goal with one goal being scored. Just three games into her junior season, she has tied her record of two goals.

Selman Continues to Inspire: The Wildcat women's soccer team will continue to wear a pre-game warm-up shirt with the No. 13 in honor of Lexe Selman, a member of UA's 2012 signing class. Selman is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment for Leukemia, which she was diagnosed with on April 20 of this year. Vowing to Selman and her family to keep her dreams of playing at the collegiate soccer level alive, Arizona head coach Lisa Oyen has promised to hold a roster spot and number until she is able to play.

Up Next: The Wildcats gear up for their first tournament of the season at the Sun Devil Desert Classic located in Tempe, Ariz. Arizona will play Pepperdine University on Friday, Sept. 7 at 4:30 p.m.(MST) and take on Houston University on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 11:00 a.m. (MST).
