No. 69 Arizona Men's Tennis Drops Match to No. 31 Washington
Seattle - The University of Arizona men's tennis team fell to the 31st-ranked Washington Huskies, 0-7, on Friday. The Wildcats lost all their singles matches and won one match in doubles competition. The Cats are now 7-9 on the season.
On the singles side, playing in the first position, senior Steven Capriati, ranked No. 40 in the nation, fell to No. 46 Alex Vlaski in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Whi Kim, in the second spot, played a tough match, but eventually fell to No. 68 Matt Hanlin, 6-1, 6-7, 7-6. Junior Tom Lloyd, lost to Ari Strasberg, 7-5, 6-4. Sophomore Carl Hagman, competing in the fourth spot, was defeated by Peter Scharler by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Competing in the fifth spot, senior Bruno Arapovic lost to Dillon Ruby, 7-5, 6-4. Freshman Colin O'Grady, competing in the sixth position lost in straight sets to Nick Weiss, 6-3, 6-0.
Arizona won one doubles match, therefore Washington won the doubles point. The team of Capriati and Hagman fell to the team of Strasberg and Vlaski, 8-1. In the second position, Kim and sophomore Roeland Brateanu came close to a victory, but couldn't hang on as they lost to Hanlin and Ruby, 9-8. O'Grady and Lloyd, competing in the third spot, topped Scharler and Weiss, 8-2, for the only Wildcat victory on the day.
The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday, April 6, at 12:00 p.m., when they face the Oregon Ducks in Eugene, Ore.
