Head Coach Joan Bonvicini
On Michigan State
"We have seven or eight tapes on them and on film they are good defensively. Personally, I think they are an excellent team. They force you to slow down, they are aggressive and they have a lot of pride in their defense. They are physical and are an excellent rebounding team and have very active hands. Both of our teams are similar and it is going to be a good game to see what team adapts to the other team well. Whoever does will most likely come out the winner. I am impressed with how prepared they are mentally and I'm also impressed with (Liz) Shimek. They are a good team."
On her philosophy...
"We took a day off on Thursday and had a lighter practice yesterday. We just take it one game at a time and we haven't talked about anything but Michigan State. We are going to go out there tomorrow and take care of business."
Sophomore Center Shawntinice Polk
On the physical contact in tournament play...
"I am looking forward to the game. The referees let you bang and let a lot of things go. We will get in there and get aggressive. It is good for our team because we like to play tough and physical. But it's not about the referees controlling the game; it is about what you do and what your team does."
On playing against Michigan State's zone defense
"The zone takes a little more effort because there is a lot more help on defense, which is something I am used to. The match-up is going to work for us because our outside shooters will be able to hit a lot more. We'll get a lot of open looks, especially if they crash down in the middle."
Junior Guard Dee-Dee Wheeler
On preparing for the NCAA tournament after 13 days since last game
"We just need to stay focused mentally, and our bodies needed the rest. It's the same for Michigan State. We will see which team stays focused and who wants it more."
Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie
On why her team's defense is solid right now...
"I think the players make it so good by working hard together as a unit and being aggressive on their defense. It's very important that we communicate on the floor and talk to each other all the time. When we are communicating on defense, we can go to another level. Our defense has been challenged a lot this season with many great teams, and we'll certainly be challenged again tomorrow night."
On Arizona's offense...
"They definitely have some wonderful guards that do a good job for them. Arizona is a high-quality team. I think many of the non-conference teams that we've faced, as well as (those) in our conference, are very high quality teams. I think Arizona has a combination of elements of the teams we have played this year."
On who will match up with Arizona center Shauntinice Polk...
"I don't think one person is uniquely qualified to do it. I think it's a team approach. She's a very good, talented player. I think she's a guard in a post's body in a lot of ways. I think it'll be a team defensive effort and I also think it's important to recognize that she will get some points. I don't think you control players like Polk, you try to slow them down and try to make them take shots that are not the best shots for them."
Sophomore Center Lindsay Bowen
On playing Arizona...
"Arizona is a tough team and all of the teams that are here are good. We have to come ready to play tomorrow. We approach every game the same and we have to be focused and play well defensively and offensively."
Junior Center Kristin Haynie
On the Big 10's physical play...
"Our team is use to the grabs and holds from the Big 10. It doesn't matter how the referees call the game, we just have to come ready to play."
