LUBBOCK, Texas -- The Arizona women’s soccer team defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 2-1 on the road Friday night.
The Wildcats were in a “battle – from the first to last minute,” said Head Coach Dan Tobias, “Texas Tech never gave up.”
Arizona has been able to hold their opponents to zero goals in first half play this season.
In the 55th minute, junior forward Jacqueline Broussard claimed a rebound, from an attempted clear by the Tech defense, and netted her second goal of the season. Broussard was ranked third on the team in assists (3), points (7), SOG (12), and SOG% (.750) last year as a sophomore.
Five minutes later, freshman forward RENAE CUELLAR followed in Broussard’s footsteps and netted a penalty kick. Cuellar has scored four goals in five games.
In the game’s 87th minute, Sarabeth Clopton would head in a Lauren Yelinek free kick making the score 2-1. Arizona improves to a 4-2 record and head back home.
The Wildcats will host the Michigan Wolverines in Arizona at Mulcahy Stadium, Friday Sept. 19th at 7 p.m.
