TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona women’s soccer team concludes final home matches of the 2012 season against Colorado on Friday, Oct. 26 at 3:00 p.m. and Utah on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Stadium.

 

Previous Weekend:  Arizona (5-9-3) went 0-2 on the weekend traveling to Oregon and No. 23 Oregon State. The Wildcats were shutout 0-2 against the Oregon Ducks. Against No. 23 Oregon State, Arizona dropped a 1-5 decision to the Beavers with Jazmin Ponce scoring the only goal for the Wildcats. Goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman registered a total of eight saves during the weekend. 

 

Noting the Buffaloes: Colorado (7-7-3) traveled to UCLA and USC in the previous weekend picking up a win and a loss. Against No. 3 UCLA, the Buffaloes dropped a 2-1 decision with Bianca Jones scoring the only goal for Colorado. In a double over-time thriller with USC, Amy Barczuk scored the winning goal in the 104th minute off a throw in by teammate Anne Stuller. Stuller leads the Buffaloes in goals (8) and shots (67).

 

Noting the Utes: Utah (8-6-2) picked up a pair of losses over the weekend against USC and No. 3 UCLA. The Utes were shutout 1-0 against the USC Trojans and shutout 2-0 against the UCLA Bruins. Katie Taylor and teammate Harley Spier lead Utah with four goals apiece. Goalkeeper Lindsey Luke has registered 70 saves in 14 games played while back-up goalkeeper Cheyanne Mulcock has registered five saves in three games played.

 

2012 Goal Tracker: Eight separate Wildcats have scored a goal for the Wildcats thus far in the 2012 season. Jazmin Ponce leads Arizona with eight followed by Ana-Maria Montoya, Susana Melendez, Jessica Culver, Candice Osei-Agyemang and Julia Glanz each with two goals apiece. Both Brie DeFelice and Alex Smith have found the back of the net with one goal apiece.

 

Keeping the Lead: Junior Forward Jazmin Ponce is still in first place in the Pac-12 for the seventh week in a row registering 76 shots with 37 on goal. Ponce also leads the Wildcats in goals with eight. For the second week in a row, goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman leads the Pac-12 in saves with 86 saves and limiting opponents to 28 goals in 17 games.

 

Montoya an Olympian: Junior Ana-Maria Montoya participated in the 2012 London Olympics with the Colombian women’s soccer team this summer and continues to make her mark at Arizona. In 17 games played, Montoya has registered two goals, one assist and has attempted a total of 28 shots with 12 on goal.

 

Honoring Lexe: Before every match, Arizona wears a pre-game warm-up shirt with the No. 13 in honor of Lexe Selman, a member of UA's 2012 signing class. Selman recently finished up her fourth round of chemotherapy treatment for Leukemia, which she was diagnosed with on April 20 of this year. Vowing to Selman and her family to keep her dreams of playing at the collegiate soccer level alive, Arizona head coach Lisa Oyen has promised to hold a roster spot and number until she is able to play.

 

Up Next: The Wildcats head up North to conclude the final match of the 2012 season against Pac-12 Conference rival Arizona State on Friday, Nov. 2 at 4:00 p.m. at the Sun Devil Soccer Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
