Denver, Colo. (Oct. 5) -- Shutout for the second time in the last three games, the University of Arizona women's soccer team (3-4-1) dropped a 3-0 decision at Denver (8-2-0) on Friday afternoon.
The Cats held off the Pioneers for the majority of the first half, until DU's Kristin Warren found the back of the net at 32:42. Molly George sent Denver up, 2-0, in the 59th minute, then Katie Antongiovanni capped the victory for the Pioneers at 76:09.
Denver out-shot the Wildcats, 21-9, for the game, and Arizona had three shots on-goal. Freshman forward Candice Wilks logged a team-high four shots, including one on-goal, for the Cats, while fellow freshman Vanesha Bailey had two shots, both on-goal. Sierra Cristiano, Liz Bartlett and Lindsey Peeples registered one shot apiece.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Monti played all 90 minutes in the nets for Arizona, collecting seven saves. Denver goalkeeper Erica Izard had three saves in the shutout.
The loss was Arizona's third in a row and sent the Wildcats to below .500 for the first time since opening the season with a loss at then-No. 5 Nebraska on Aug. 31. On a four-game win streak, Denver improved to 8-2 overall.
In the midst of a six-game road swing, Arizona remains in Colorado this weekend, playing at Air Force on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 12 p.m. MDT.
