COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

Arizona Sophomore Samantha Pickens (Murrysville, Pa.) and senior Ben Grado (Conifer, Colo.) both posted successful days in the first day of the NCAA Diving Zone E Championships on Thursday.

Pickens earned a second-place finish on the 1m, only to USC's Victoria Ishimatsu, to automatically qualify her for next week's Women's NCAA Championships. Pickens finished with a score of 615.25, recording a solid performance through all 12 dives.

Grado posted a score of 781.00 on the 3m for a fourth-place finish behind Stanford's Kristian Ipsen, BYU's Brandon Watson and ASU's Constantin Blaha. Grado's qualification for the Men's NCAA Championships on this board will depend on the other field of divers, but finishes the day in a promising position.

The divers will be back in action on Friday for the women's 3m and men's 1m. The preliminary round is slated to begin at 11 a.m. MT and finals at 12:45 MT.
