SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The No. 15 Arizona volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season, a 3-1 (20-30, 20-30, 30-27, 31-33) defeat at the hands of No. 25 Santa Clara in the Bronco Invitational this evening. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 4-1 on the year.
Arizona was out-hit .303 to .192 and out-blocked 10-6 on the match. Santa Clara also tallied 72 kills to the Wildcats' 49.
Senior Jennifer Abernathy led Arizona with 16 kills, followed by Kim Glass with 13. Junior Kristina Baum finished with eight kills and 10 digs. Sophomore setter Amy Dyck, playing for the injured Stephanie Butkus, finished with a double-double -- 36 assists and 10 digs. She also added three blocks. All three were career highs.
UP NEXT: Arizona closes out the tournament with a 12:30 p.m. match against Fresno State tomorrow, Sept. 10.
