ALBUQUERQUE, NM ?-The Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) today announced the three finalists for the third annual Creamland Dairies Basketball Award of Excellence and Arizona’s Dee-Dee Wheeler is on the list. Joining Wheeler as finalists are TCU’s Sandora Irvin and Kansas State’s Kendra Wecker.
The award, which honors college seniors for their athletic and academic achievement, as well as their community involvement, will be presented next Tuesday, April 12, at an awards dinner at the Albuquerque Marriott.
A point guard, Wheeler will go down in history as one of the Pac-10’s best. As a freshman, Wheeler was named the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and continued her success throughout her career as a three-time first team All Pac-10 selection and numerous Pac-10 Player of the Week honoree. This season, Wheeler earned honorable mention All-America honors by both Kodak and the Associated Press.
During her senior campaign, Wheeler Arizona in scoring, scoring average, minutes played, three-point field goals made, assists and steals. She leaves the Wildcat program as the second all-time leading scorer with 1,996 points. She also ranks first in the Arizona record books in games played (124), games started (118), minutes played (4,032), and steals (304).
Wheeler has participated in basketball clinics for the Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Club of America and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She is majoring in Education.
