SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – After the conclusion of the second session, the University of Arizona women’s gymnastics team has officially taken fifth place in the Pac-12 Championships. UCLA won the meet with a score of 197.425, Utah took second with a 197.375, Oregon State posted a 197.025 for third, and Stanford finished fourth with a 196.825.
Arizona’s finish marks the 26th consecutive year of post season appearances, making the gymnastics team one of the most consistent post season teams in the University’s history.
From this point forward, the team awaits the NCAA Regional selection, which is based upon a very complex seeding involving regular season final RQS scores for the top 18 teams, and geographic proximity to pre-selected Regional Championship locations.
“No matter where we end up, I am excited for Regionals.” Head coach Bill Ryden said, “This team is a really good team. We are very consistent, and the girls definitely have that hunger and that fight; they never give up. This team is fun to compete with, and we are all looking forward to the upcoming Championships regardless of where we are sent– especially after tonight’s performances.”
For 2012, the locations include Barnhill Arena at the University of Arkansas, Auburn Arena at Auburn, Assembly Hall at the University of Illinois, Reynolds Coliseum of North Carolina State, Jon. M. Huntsman Center at the University of Utah, and Alaska Airlines Arena for the University of Washington.
Based on tonight’s scores across the nation, the top three potential locations for the Wildcats include Assembly Hall, Reynolds Coliseum, and Alaska Airlines Arena.
Seedings will officially be announced this Monday, March 26 during the inaugural NCAA Gymnastics Selection show at 3 PM EST.
