Pac-10 release

The Arizona gymnastics team had four members named to the conference all-academic team, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced Thursday, March 19.

Senior Alexis Greene and junior Miranda Russell were named named to the first team, while senior Bree Workman and junior Sarah Tomczyk were named to the second team.

“It’s certainly a nice honor and I’m proud of all three girls,” said Arizona head coach Bill Ryden. “It’s nice to get recognized for the hard work in the classroom.”

Greene is on the all-academic team for the third straight year. The psychology major posted a 3.52 GPA and has been a consistent contributor for the Wildcats all season. Greene has competed in every meet this season for the Wildcats, including six all-around performances. She recorded a season-high on vault at 9.825, a career-high 9.9 on bars, a season-high 9.75 on beam and a season-high 9.775 on floor.

Russell made the all-academic team despite her injury midway through the season. The Spanish major competed in the Wildcats first three meets before hurting her knee. She was on pace for a solid season with two all-around scores. Russell had the team-high GPA at 3.72.

Tomczyk made the all-academic team for the second straight season with a 3.40 GPA. The English major has competed in every meet this season for Arizona, including her first as an all-arounder. She has been a primary contributor on vault, bars and floor with highs of 9.875, 9.85 and 9.925 respectively.

Workman is on the all-academic team for the second straight year. The elementary education major collected a 3.33 GPA while competing in every meet on vault and floor. Workman has recorded two career-high 9.9’s on vault and two career-high 9.875’s on floor.

“Anytime you get recognized by the conference it’s a nice honor,” Ryden said.
