Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller

On the win against Charleston Southern:
"One of the things I've tried to do before each game is assess the team we will be playing. Charleston Southern is a team that won 19 games a year ago. They are predicted to win their conference for a reason. When you have a point guard that is as dynamic as they do and point guards that can score as well as they do and play how they do, it's dangerous. It was a great learning experience for our players especially our freshman. You can simulate things in practice like how fast the game is, watching the defense, how it is to rotate properly, but it doesn't quite make sense until you're in the game. It's great we were able to learn some lessons and to start the season 1-0. There's always another story to a game. I think Jordin Mayes did an overall great job. There were a number of players that had great plays. That's why we are as fortunate as we are."

On Kevin Parrom:
"Kevin [Parrom] is important to us. If you look at the role he had two years ago as a sophomore, he did today what he did so many times on that team. He had some key offensive rebounds, some really nice passes. You sometimes rely on seniors and juniors. Tonight there were truly a great number of veterans that stepped up tonight."

On Arizona adjusting to Charleston Southern's three-point zone:
"It's a quick and active zone. They did a great job at not fouling tonight. By not fouling, it takes some of the advantage that we have away. Sometimes it's harder for the big guys to play against the zone especially for the young, big guys. Again, I think it's one of those many lessons that we have learned tonight. There are different styles that you play against."

On decision to play Mark Lyons and Jordin Mayes at the same time:
"We were forced to go small. They were playing with four, sometimes five guards. They way they used the dribble, you can't promote turnovers. They played with 15 turnovers. That's a pretty good job. At the end of the day, it's great to have a number of our players making better plays in the second half."

On Arizona's 25 assists and Arizona's sharing of the ball:
"We had seven or eight turnovers, which is excellent. With 25 assists and eight turnovers, you don't have many games like that. We started to rebound better in the second half. We didn't get as many offensive rebounds in the beginning. We shot 45 percent. There were a lot of positives on our offense. Our defense is where we have our problem."

Arizona Player Quotes

Senior Guard Mark Lyons:

On the slow start:
"It was tough at first to get going but my teammates picked me up and told me it was okay. Charleston Southern was a great team with great dribble motion offense. Everything goes out to them for challenging us and making us work."

On teammates:
"My teammates are great scorers. I expect them to make shots. I have trust in them and they trust me. Coach makes good adjustments and has all the leaders on the floor together."

Freshman Forward Brandon Ashley:

On hot start coming off the bench:
"Coming off of the bench, I wanted to bring great energy. When I play good defense then good offense follows. Whether I start or come in later in the game, I want to make the most of it. Starting is not the most important thing."

On Charleston Southern:
"They had a lot of talented guys who play well. We were able to rebound well and attack on offense and everything opened up from there."

Sophomore Guard Nick Johnson:

On getting the ball to the post players:
"Last year we didn't even have that option. When we have mismatches down low, we're going to keep going to the post players. We're going to have mismatches against every team we play. We have four guys 6'9 and above who can all play. We have to be prepared to go against zone defenses and go from there."
