Bonvicini Announces 2006-07 Schedule

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Arizona head coach Joan Bonvicini today announced her team’s schedule for the 2006-07 season, and it includes 20 games against 14 teams that participated in the 2006 NCAA Tournament.

The Wildcats open the season Nov. 14 at home against Nicholls State before heading to College Park, Md., for the BTI Classic. There they will face George Washington and TCU, each of which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, along with defending national champion Maryland.

Arizona then returns to McKale Center for a game against NC State, a team that last year advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats close out November with a pair of road games against UTEP and perennial NCAA Tournament team Texas A&M.

Arizona opens December with home games against Louisiana Tech and New Mexico, both of which made NCAA Tournament appearances a year ago. The Wildcats then hit the road for a game at Utah, a team that was one free throw away from the Final Four last year. Arizona closes out non-conference play at McKale Center with games against Bonvicini’s former team, Long Beach State, and Fresno State, which advanced to the second round of the WNIT last year.

The challenging conference slate begins in late December just before the holiday break. As a conference, the Pac-10 sent a record six teams to the NCAA Tournament last season. Arizona opens Pac-10 play with a three-game road swing at Arizona State, California and Stanford.

The Wildcats open 2007 at home against the Washington schools before hitting the road to face the Oregon schools Jan. 11 and 13. Arizona then plays four-straight homes games ?- USC, UCLA, Stanford and California ?- to close out January.

The Wildcats open February on the road at the Washington schools, followed by games at home against the Oregon schools. After a final road swing to UCLA and USC, Arizona concludes the regular season at home for Senior Day against instate rival Arizona State.

The Pac-10 Tournament will again be held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. The 2007 tournament runs March 2-5.
