Arizona returns two-time all-conference performer Davellyn Whyte, a junior guard, and senior guard Shanita Arnold, who led the Pac-10 in assists for much of the 2010-11 season. The Wildcats' roster boasts five returners from last season, including two starters, and six newcomers, three freshmen and three junior transfers. Arizona also adds 6-5 freshman center Aley Rohde, a native of Cave Creek, Ariz. and a graduate of Pinnacle High School, to this season's roster.
Collecting the maximum number of points (121) and first-place votes (11), Stanford was picked the preseason favorite for the 2012 Pac-12 title for the 11th year in a row. Receiving one first-place vote and second in the polling was USC (111), and California was third with 98 points.
UCLA is fourth in the polling with 83 points. Arizona State garnered 68 points to place fourth. Newcomer Utah rounds out the top half of the coaches' poll, collecting 61 points.
In seventh place was Washington State with 59 points. Oregon is eighth with 51 points, followed by Arizona (48) and Washington (38). The final two teams in the poll are Colorado (36) in 11th and Oregon State (18) in 12th.
The Wildcats, under fourth-year head coach Niya Butts, open the season Nov. 2 at the McKale Center with an exhibition against Western State College.
