Trailing 1-0 after four innings, CSF roughed up UA starter Eric Berger for four runs on three hits in the fifth inning. Shortstop Blake Davis came up with a two-run triple to key the Titan rally.
Right fielder Jared Clark started inning with a full count, leadoff walk. A passed ball by Konrad Schmidt and a Berger wild pitch were sandwiched around a ground out to place
Catcher John Curtis, who finished the game 3 for 4 with two RBI, tied the game at 1-1 with a single to left in the next at- bat. Berger, who threw 120 pitches in six innings, advanced Curtis to third on back-back wild pitches and issued a walk to Evan McArthur to place runners on the corners with one out.
A fielder’s choice grounder eliminated Curtis at home for the second out, but an infield single to third by Justin Turner handed CSF a 2-1 lead, and Davis delivered with his second triple of year to extend the advantage to 4-1.
The Titans tacked on a single run in the sixth on RBI-single by Curtis, and capped off the night with a run in the ninth when UA right fielder Jon Gaston misplayed a single by Brandon Tripp into a two-base error.
Arizona, which cut into the CSF lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh, had the tying runs on first and third with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but Titan closer Vinnie Pestano struck out Schmidt to end the threat and the game.
Berger dropped to 3-4 on the year after giving up five runs on eight hits in six innings. The left-hander struck out four and walked three on the night.
UA left fielder Bill Rhinehart led the Wildcats at the plate, finishing 2 for 4 with two doubles and a run scored.
